I, like many others, was part of the Equifax breach. For your time.

Kinja'd!!!

It turns out the breach was worse than reported, with more information being lost than previously claimed.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I’ve read about people successfully suing Equifax in small claims court. I’ve been seriously considering it. Granted, I will most likely lose, however, it will cost Equifax more to defend the case than it would have to just pay the settlement. Especially if I win and they appeal.

What does oppo think? Is it worth the hundred dollar filing fee, and a day off of work just to be a pain in the butt for them? I might end up with $7,500, small claim court limit, out of the deal.

For me personally, no. But then again, I’m not real patient with that stuff.

I just got a call yesterday from Amex, asking me if I charged $184 at Rock Auto and $154 at Frontier Airlines. NOPE!! 2nd time I’ve had a fraud attempt since Thanksgiving. Ugh. I have a freeze on my credit — no new accounts for 90 days without verification. I think I need to extend that...

Well if you win more than a days wages + $100 filing fee than it is worth it financially. That seems like something I would do for fun though. If you choose to go through with it than please give us an update on the results.

I’m surprised this isn’t a class-action thing.

I have no doubt it will turn into one.

What odd purchases for a fraud attempt. usually it’s some Big Box store (for gift cards), gasoline, or something like Skype credits.

I know, right? Rock Auto is slightly odd, but I can understand using the card for online purchases, I guess.

But air travel seems like one of the last things on earth that you’d use a stolen credit card number for.

I’d be tempted to call the airline and see how much information they give you. “Yes, I just used my card to buy a plane ticket, but I’m worried I spelled the name for the ticket wrong, can you spell it out for me?”

I looked a little bit yesterday, but because Amex caught it in time, the Frontier charge is just sitting in ‘pending charges’. Which means that I don’t have a ticket number or any other detail. I figured that only having the credit card number it was charged to wouldn’t get me anywhere, so I didn’t bother calling the airline (although I thought about it, believe me).
